Submit Work

Small Works on Paper (SWOP) is an annual juried art exhibition featuring the artwork of Arkansas Artist Registry members. The deadline to submit work for the 2018 exhibition has passed. Each year the SWOP exhibition tours the state and can be viewed at ten locations in Arkansas. The 2018 exhibition will open at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock in January 2018.

SWOP is open to current members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. (Non-members submitting an entry are required to join the Registry at time of entry. Click here to complete an application.) Current Arkansas Arts Council advisory board members, staff of the Department of Arkansas Heritage or members of their immediate families are not eligible.

The Arkansas Artist Registry is free and open to all visual artists who are Arkansas residents. It is a unique and valuable online visual arts resource designed to promote and market Arkansas art.

The 2018 juror is James Phillips, artist and associate professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Phillips teaches painting and public art and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He's a longtime member of the AfriCobra and Weusi art movements and his work has been exhibited internationally. His commissioned public art projects can be seen in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and San Francisco.

Up to $2,000 will be available for juror selected awards. Selected works will become part of the SWOP permanent collection.

$10 for one entry, $20 for two entries, or $25 for three entries.

All work must be original, on paper, and completed within the last two years.

Dimensions of actual work can be any size, but must be matted or mounted to 18" x 18" or 18" x 24" (H x W or W x H), if accepted. Matted or mounted work, plus backing board, must not exceed 1/2" thickness to fit in frames. Frames will be provided by the Arkansas Arts Council for accepted artwork.

A maximum of 40 works will be selected by the juror. Artwork may be refused if digital image is not an accurate representation of work. Host locations reserve the right to determine the number of works shown and layout of the exhibition at their local sites. Some locations may not display the entire exhibition. Accepted artwork will be due in the Arkansas Arts Council office by Nov. 9, 2017. Artwork may be shipped or hand-delivered.

Please indicate the value for each work submitted. All work is considered for sale unless the artist indicates work is not for sale (NFS). Commissions are not taken on sales.

Reasonable care will be exercised in handling the artwork. Artists may wish to provide their own insurance. Entry in this exhibition constitutes agreement with the terms and conditions of the 31st annual Small Works on Paper touring exhibition.

All artists will be notified regarding the status of their entries in September 2017.
