Arkansas Arts Council - Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Arkansas artists are invited to submit work for the 2017 Small Works on Paper exhibition. Deadline for entries is Friday, July 22, 2016. Entry forms are available at HERE, or by calling (501) 324-9766.

Celebrating its 30th year in 2017, Small Works on Paper is a competitive visual art exhibition showcasing artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. The Arkansas Artist Registry is an online gallery featuring the artwork of Arkansas artists. Membership to the Arkansas Artist Registry is free and open to all Arkansas artists.

The Small Works on Paper exhibition offers Arkansas artists an extraordinary opportunity to show their work to patrons all over the state. Ten venues across the state host the exhibition, which tours throughout the year. An out-of-state juror selects a maximum of 40 pieces of artwork to tour with the exhibition. Up to $2,000 is available for juror-selected purchase awards, which become part of the Small Works on Paper permanent collection.

Entries will be juried by David Houston, executive director of The Bo Bartlett Center at Columbus State University’s College of the Arts in Columbus, Georgia. Houston is an art historian, lecturer, and writer. He is the former director of curatorial at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville and former co-director and chief curator at the Odgen Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. He also served as past director of The Lee Gallery at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C.

Arkansas artists may enter up to three works of art on paper for a fee of $10 per entry or $25 for three entries. Works must have been completed within the last two years. Artists whose work is selected for the 2017 Small Works on Paper exhibition will be notified in September 2016. The exhibition will open at the East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City in January. For more information, contact Cheri Leffew at (501) 324-9767.
